RODDLE: A bike R-ide at a t-ODDLE pace, an EVENT as well as a bike ride. This year's Roddle, includes a nostalgic tour with stops at a country museum and a flea market followed by a pleasant bike ride. The official start point is the Osgoode Township Museum located at 7814 Lawrence Street, Vernon, ON which is 37 kms south of Ottawa on Highway 31. By prior arrangement only, car pooling may be available at the RA Centre at 9:30. Contact me at roloduffy{at}yahoo.ca no later than Saturday 6:00PM to confirm. The museum thrives on donations so please bring some coins.
After 45-60 minutes we will continue south on Highway 31 for 35 kms to the McHaffie Flea Market just outside Morrisburg. Antiques and unique items are often found here. When ready we will continue south for 5 minutes to the Morrisburg dock area (washroom) where we will have our picnic lunch in the park by the St Lawrence River. Bring a lawn chair.
After lunch we will begin the Roddle and go west along a quiet and scenic road for 10 kms where we, Option #1, turn around and go back to the park, or, Option #2, continue another 6kms through the town of Iroquois to the Iroquois Lock Station (washroom) where we might see an ocean going freighter go through the locks. This option includes a 3km segment on County Road 2.
Option #1 is a 20km ride and Option #2 would make it a 32 km ride. The group will decide whether to go short or long at the 10 km mark.
Please bring a couple of coins, your helmet, picnic lunch, lawn chair, your smile, and wear a bright shirt to be visible while biking. See you then.
A refreshment stop at the MacIntosh Inn may follow.
