Downhill Weekends 2010Fri. Feb. 19 - Mon. Feb. 22, 2010 This year our annual combined cross-country/downhill ski weekend is to the Killington area in south-central Vermont. If you advise us early enough, we'll try to help you find someone to take your place.HOTELWe’ll stay at the Holiday Inn in Rutland, 25 km from Killington. The hotel has an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, fitness facility and restaurant. The rooms have two double-size beds, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker.CROSS-COUNTRYMountain Top is 11 miles from Killington, and has 60 km of trails (40 km groomed) for skate and classic skiing. Daily trail fee: US$20.Mountain Meadows has 30 km of groomed trails for skate and classic skiing. Daily trail fee is US$19. Mountain Meadows is 20 minutes from Rutland. DOWNHILL - KILLINGTONKillington is the largest ski and snowboard centre in Eastern North America, stretching over seven mountains. Your ski ticket is good for both Killington and Pico, a short 2-mile shuttle trip (free) from Killington. Killington and Pico together have 191 runs, 30 lifts, 88 miles of trails, and a vertical drop of 3050 ft. Average annual snowfall is 250 inches (6.35 meters), and if it doesn't snow enough, there are 1,435 snow guns. DEPARTURE1:30 PM sharp, RA Centre, West Parking Lot. Downhill skiers are invited to join the cross-country folks
on a weekend outing at Val-David, in the Laurentians about an hour's drive north
of Montreal. While the cross-country skiers ski at Parc regional Dufresne (formerly the Far Hills & Val-David XC ski areas),
downhillers can ski at one of the nearby hills (Tremblant is a
half-hour away, Mont Blanc 25 minutes, St. Sauveur 20 minutes, Chanteclair 15 minutes,
and Belle Neige 10 minutes). Or, alpine skiers can do one day of
downhill and one day of cross-country. Parc Regional Dufresne is one
of the most scenic cross-country ski centres in ACCOMMODATIONThe Auberge du Vieux Foyer, Val-David, Que., is in the Laurentians just over an hour’s drive north of Montreal. After your day of skiing, enjoy the amenities of l’Auberge du Vieux Foyer: an outdoor spa and sauna, outdoor skating (weather permitting), billiards, table tennis, or just sit by the fire in the “salon”.
